Hey, I was driving on a highway and suddenly the engine light came on. I continued driving and it stayed on. After turning the car off and on again it didn't come on again. Since then I have only been driving within the city and it hasn't come on again.
As I will go on a big trip with this car, I want to check it. A mechanic told me that you cannot check it if the light is off. Is this right? Yesterday another mechanic told me something different.

Hi there,

When ever the light is on a code is set in the memory, you can retrieve this code with a scanner, most workshops can do this, it takes only a few Minuit's to preform.

Thank you very much! So I can do the test and the light doesn't have to be on?

Yes thats correct, often a code can be set with out the light ever showing, go get a scan and see what the code is.
