My 2004 GMC Yukon blower motor does not always work on the higher speeds. There are also times when the blower motor does not shut off. I have seen on line and talked to a few folks and have heard about a potential control module or blower resistor. Does this vehicle have both? The resistor is in an easy place to replace, but don;t know about the control module. Where is it located if it has one. Which one do you think is the problem.

Hi ckaahunter,

Thank you for the donation?

The HVAC system is equipped with self diagnostics and with the aid of a scanner, you can test what is wrong.

Is your vehicle with auto or manual HVAC?

I believe it is automatic. We set the temp but it regulates it from there.

Quite likely it is the HVAC control module that is faulty but before condemning it, I would suggewst getting a scanner diagnose for possible causes. If you require testing procedures, I would get them for you.

Here is a view of the control module.

I assume that to scan for possible codes takes special equipment. Is there a way to test the resistor with an volt/ohm meter? This way I can either eliminate the resistor as a problem or replace it.

No manual testing procedures are availble for the resistor in my database. The only available test are with the scanner.

I had the Yukon scanned - about $60, and they informed me that the control module/resistor needed to be replaced. Its the one just off of the blower motor under the dash on the passenger side. It was part # AC Delco 15-80567 or GM#89018778.

Some of the local parts houses could not find this number or cross reference it, but finally found one.

Replaced the unit and all works well.

Thanks for the help and input.
