Three days ago I tried to start the car and it slowly tried to turn over and then just did this ticking sound. We purchased our battery 13 months ago but the store we bought it from replaced it anyway because when they did a diagnostic on it, they couldn't find or think of anything else it could be. It was fine for a day and today it stalled at a stop light. It started right back up and a mile down the road it almost stalled again at a light, even while I revved the engine. I was turning a corner and it stalled again while I was driiving it. I parked, turned the car off and tried to lock the doors with the key fob. Nothing. I tried to start it and nothing. My son came up and jumped it and when I put it in reverse, it quit again. Does this sound like the alternator even though the mechanics didn't find it to be faulty?

Get both the alternator and battery load tested- double check battery connection and also the starter side

The computer might not be controlling the field generation of the alternator. Diagram below for the charging system unable to read give me your email addy.

Hello
Thanks for the donation.

First you should inspect the battery terminals and cables. Are they clean from any corrosion and tightened properly? If yes, inspect drive belts. If OK here as well, have charging system tested off and on vehicle.

Post results and I will follow up.

A mechanic did what you said and load tested the alternator. He said it wasn't charging the battery enough. We were given a warranty of 12 months. It seems to be running alright but I've only had it back for a few hours. I will be leary about it for a couple of days. It is still running a little rough. Should it be given a tune up? What kind of price can be expected to do one?
