2002 GMC Yukon Replacement Engine

This is a great vehicle but I know that the miles on the engine will be taking their toll. Two questions: what's the typical replacement cost of an engine and while it is probably a good idea to change out the transmission, too, my budget is only so big. Am I asking for trouble just doing the engine alone? The current motor runs very well, no seal leaks or obvious lack of compression. It's just gettin' a lot of highway miles.

It is dependant upon what you desire for an engine. A crate motor from GM, or a rebuild from an aftermarket source. You would not necessarily be asking for trouble doing the engine alone, if your maintenance has been adequate with the trans, and you adhere to the towing capacities and such. With a vehicle of that kind of miles, anything is possible. Other things to be concerned with are the rear differential, front differential, transfer case, and electrical.

Here is the parts and labor info for engine replacement. Of course the labor rate is going to vary shop to shop, but it will give you an idea. The (engine) is O.E, and it might be a new part price, as opposed to factory reman.
