Engine Mechanical problem
1998 GMC Truck 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 220K miles

I went thru some deep water today (just over the bumper). The truck went thru it fine but once I was on the other side it started running rough and eventually died. I disconnected the breather and there wasn't any water to be found, I dried off all plug wires at cap and coil. Removed distributor cap and no water there also. The engine was turning over just fine and it tried to start a couple of times and then it backfired thru the carburetor, now when I try to start it it sounds like the battery is low or the engine has jumped timing, making the rump, rump, rump sounds.

Do below:

Disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine -have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, cap and rotor /distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, ECM, Ignitor camshaft and crankshaft sensors- Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it
