1995 GMC Truck backfiring

When I accellorate I loose rpms, when I let off rmps go up. Never going up past 2000rpms, it is backfiring. As I accelorate the check engine light comes on (as the truck is dying) then I let off the gas and check engine light turns off. What can I do I feel like i've tried all the obvious!

You have a problem within the engine management system -you need to have the computer scanned for code/s this is your starting point of diagnosis. Autozone provides this service free.
