Electrical problem
1989 GMC Suburban V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I recently fixed the starter, power steering, and several other minor things on my Suburban. I am currently stuck in Kansas because my engine doesn't start. I replaced the battery this morning and that hasn't solved the issue. I thought that maybe the starter was acting up again, however, there are some differences this time from last time that cause me to second guess myself. Last time while the engine didn't kick over I could still operate the lights, door locks and windows. This time while I can still operate the lights, nothing happens with the door locks or windows. I was told last week that my alternator was good, but I'm still wondering if it went bad mid-trip. I am a novice at auto mechanics but can follow directions well. I'm stranded at a campground right off the interstate while on a cross country move to Pennsylvania. I have a very tight budget and would appreciate any suggestions as to which way to look in diagnosing and repairing the problem.

Thank you.

Hello, are you saying the starter won't even crank? You need to be sure the battery has a full charge and all battery connections are good. When you turn the key to crank, can you tell if there is a load on the starter? Watch the headlites--dash lites or something, if they dim or go out, key in the crank position, usually a problem with battery or cables, can't rule out the starter. If the lites stay bright, don't do anything, while trying to crank, check the neutral switch. Did you try cranking in neutral?

When I try to turn her over there is nothing. Headlights are bright. Interior lights are bright. Nothing on the dash. The gauges don't move, no lights. The battery is brand spanking new, fresh from the store. The cables were recently changed out. I don't even get a click like you do when it's trying to turn. It's like no power is making it's way to the starter.

Hi, sounds like an open starter circuit, I'd start by checking the neutral switch. Usually with GM vehicle there is a small purple wire at the starter solenoid, should be hot with the key in the crank position.
