2000 GMC Sonoma Service Engine Soon/lost 4th gear

I bought a 2000 Sonoma a month ago. Today on the freeway running about 70 the Service Engine Soon light came on, a few minutes later it downshifted to 3rd. Fearing the worst I got off the freeway and took side streets the rest of the way home. It ran ok, shifting was okay, just wouldn't go to 4th.
Ideas?

Take this to a trans shop where they an pull the code out of it. I is an trans code so if there is osmething wrong it may tell you but it might be teh trans will need a rebuild.
