My Sierra has a 5.3L Vortec engine. I had forgotten my wallet at home and ran out of gas on the interstate on the way to the gas station. When I poured the gas can in, it started and ran great for about 5 seconds, then it knocked and stumbled, it died soon after. I finally got it to the gas station and filled up. I had the same problem numerous times on the way home, then suddenly it ran fine again, all the way home. I went to the store shortly after and it ran normally there and back. The next day I start it and it did the same thing, started fine then died. Only now thats all it will do, it's been in the driveway ever since. I replaced the fuel filter and added sea foam to the tank with no luck. My friend thought it could be the MAP sensor or the fuel pressure regulator but since it ran fine inbetween problems I wasn't sure what to try next. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds to me that you need a new fuel pump, when the car is having its issues perform a fuel pressure test to confrim this. If you have no or little fuel pressure check for 12v at pump, if it has 12v but low pressure replace pump.

Running out of gas is a good way to ruin it.
