Engine Mechanical problem
1996 GMC Sierra V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

starts fine after sitting for 6 hours but any sooner it will act like it wants to flood out, if I hold the foot feed down it will start. I had a buddy hook up a code reader to it and it came up with a temp code saying its not hot enough. My temp gauge shows 180. Would this also cause my torque converter to not lock up? That started happening at the same time.

Hi labby2698, Welcome to 2carpros and TY for the donation

Check and test the coolant temperature sensor-acting like its flooding out could be injectors and fuel pressure regualtor leaking, to inlcude excessive fuel pressure due to clogged return line.

BTW some manufacturers use the coolant temperature sensor to control the overdrive operation of the transmission.
