Engine Performance problem
1988 GMC Sierra V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

My '88 GMC will start just fine on a cold start. When I drive it for 1 mile and turn it off , it wont start. It turns over but wont fire. I have changed the ignition coil, distributor cap and rotor button. Did not fix problem. It almost feels like it's flooding out. there is a slight gas smell when I try to restart it. thinking maybe it's the fuel pump. would like a second opinion before i dish out more money. your help is needed and very appreciated. thank you

Disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine -have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, ECM,Ignitor cam and crank sensors- Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it

Ignition control module, super easy to fix. They go out in these makes and models often and are hard to pinpoint.

Pop open the distributor cap, its mounted with 2 screws, just a flat semicircle plate. Unplug the two electrical connectors, replace and put it all back together, you are done.
