Hi there,

There could be a few reasons why you are unable to select reverse gear. When in Reverse and throttle operated is there any movement at all, even a small surge or clunk? If it is driving in forward gears OK the problem will lie in the valve body, reverse servo or reverse drive bands, there is not much you can do your self, so you best get visit your mechanic for a more detailed evaluation.

Thank you for your comments. It was suggested that it may be possible the drive shell broke and that he has to take apart the transmission to check it and it would cost $400 in labour to take off and the same to reinstall after checking what it wrong with the transmission. Plus parts of course. I'm just wondering if it is worth it, or should get a new used transmission. The vehilce has 300,000 on it and I think it is the original transmission, there was a new engine put in last year with 38,000 km. Thank you any comments or thoughts would be appreciated.
Thank again,
Lady who doesn't know what to do. Oh! What happens if I drive it or should I let it sit until I can afford to fix it?

Hi there,

What ever has failed, will cause more damage as the small metal particles will still be circulating in the oil, maybe best to lay it up untill you can get it repaired or replaced, my thoughts would be a second hand one considering the age of the car.

Thank you again. Because of your comments, I am putting my vehicle in the garage and letting it sit there until I am able to have it repaired. This way when its at the shop, the family can't drive it.
Thank you again.

Have a very Merry Christmas! And Happy New Year!
