I bought a motor that had been partly disassembled. I went to put in the new fuel pump because the other was missing. I cant seem to get the fuel rod to go up so I can insert the lever(pump) and quick tips on how to get it up without bending and ruining the rod. Many thanks

edit: forgot to mention its a mid 80's 350. Thanks

Ok the fuel pump rod is in the way. Rotate the crank shaft. This will move the cams lob out of the way. Once you do this the rod will go further in. Rotate the crank until the rod is in enough to install the pump. As a hint put grease on the rod so when you push it up it stays  PS. A pair of needle nose pliers works well to grab the rod and move it up
