Tune up!

I just purchased a 1994 gmc jimmy 130972 miles a v6 and I was wondering about the check engine light. The car rides smooth and starts fine but I was wondering about the check engine light. When I am at a light the car does a little shaking and I was wondering if that could possibly be because it needs a tune up? Or if not what could the shaking be? It only does it when I am at a stop.

You do not need the thermostat in the car till winter? Are you freakin serious!

The thermostat is what, when it gets hot enough, opens to allow the cooler coolant in the radiator to flow into the engine and cool it down, so if it didn't stop overheating with the new one then the problems elsewhere.

First I would go back to that mechanic, tell him to put your thermostat back in and go somewhere else.

Second I would consider a coolant system flush to clear up any blockages in the lines, also do you have electric fans or a belt driven fan?
