I just purchased a new smog/air pump for this truck due to the old one making a chattering noise. (Its electrical) after replacaing it, now it makes a whining noise upon startup for about 1 minuet, coming from the fan running. What can I do now?

Not sure how much help I can offer on the noise, but there is a problem with water entering them and causing them to fail.

Is the noise coming from the pump itself?...defective pump?

Thanks for the help, there was moisture in the housing of the old pump everything bolted back up in place perfect. The noise is a whine pr hum emitted from the pump. Iit sounds like the fan itself, it stops after about a min or 2
anything?

I haven't run into the noise, so I can only theorize. The grease on the bearing of the fan may be cold and not lubricating properly until it heats up from spinning, which will lead to premature failure. I will see if I can learn something about this and post later if I do.

As far as the kit I described above, this should be purchased from the dealer and installed. The moisture you found in the pump housing will return without this kit and you will be in the same boat again. I have seen this happen sometime within a year of replacement.
