I have a jimmy that will not start cold. It will turn over and sometimes acts like it wants to start and then quickly dies. I have checked the fuel pressure and its sits at 55 psi key on and stays there when key is off. When the car is running it drops about 10 psi. I just changed distributor and rotor button and spark plugs and still having the same problem. I also changed the air filter as well. The only way that I can get this car to start is by spraying ether into the carborator. What could the problem be?

Hi, if you have the spider fuel system, the pressure is too low, it should be 60--66 psi. Have you changed the fuel filter recently? If you change the filter, make sure there is no pressure on the system.

Proper fuel pressure is critical on the spider system. Sometimes the fuel poppets need cleaning.

The system on my jimmy is not the spider injection. Its is the classic throttle body assembly, looks like half a carb.. I did change the fuel filter and I have not found any leaks in the lines. the fuel pump is strong. However, I did not find a fuel pressure regulator anywhere, so, I'm not sure if its an electrical, sensor, or fuel problem.

If that is the factory fuel system? Mod says you have the spider system. I looked up your injectors in a parts book, the injectors were for a spider system??

99 with a 4.3 would have the CPI unit unless this isn't a domestic truck? The fuel pressure at 55 is low and is likely a bad pump.
