Steering colum popping

I have a 2004 GMC sierra 1500 that has for the second time started popping in the steering. It was repaired/greased at 20K under warranty. Now at 42K started again and was told this was not under warranty and would cost $100 to repair. Was told to expect this to keep happening because they did not have a permanent fix. Anybody have the same problem or a fix? Thanks in advance.

I've read several forums on the internet and you wouldn't believe the amount of times I have seen this same problem discussed. Seems that GM 1999 thru present all have this same issue. Can't believe they don't have a fix for this. It's a shame that this has to be repaired or replaced more often than tires. You would think that a 30 or 40 thousand dollar vehicle would have more reliability. Thanks for your response 2CarPro Jack.
