I have a 1973 GMC 1500 truck (350 V8) and it dies when I put it in gear. It will idle fine and I can rev the engine with no problem but as soon as I shift it in to gear it dies. I can get it to go into reverse and it seems to work okay.
It has been running good up until now and I am wondering if it is a fuel problem, carb problem, or tranny problem? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Sounds like tranny problems. I would guess that the forward clutch pack is locked and this would be like popping the clutch on a standard tranny. If it runs good in rev. And idles it kinda eliminates fuel and carb. There could be a chafed wire that grounds the ignition when the engine torques over when going into gear. Check the wiring to the dist. For problems. Good luck
