I just got a tune up and just got a distributor in my car and it still won't start backyard mechanic said, it might be a blown head gasket.

Assuming this is the 1.8, the dist. can only be installed correctly or 180 degrees out, so he may have it 180 out.
Even with a bad head gasket it should start, might run bad, but should run to some extent.
If head gasket is bad, perform a compression test to see.
Look at pic. notice that the dist. fits into exhaust cam, and can be installed incorrectly.
