Steering problem
1999 Ford Windstar 6 cyl Automatic 138000 miles

my steering went out and figured it was just low on fluid. Went to add fluid and foung that the resivoir was full but it was black and kind of chunky looking. Is it the pump? Is it something more simple or difficult? Please help

May just need flushed and refilled with fresh fluid. When pump starts to fail it usually gives off horrible noise and leaks.

When I am driving, (usually down the highway) every once in a whie I lose power in the acceleration. The enginestill revs, but it will top outat about 40 miles per hour. This has happened about once a week for the last three weeks. After I park it, and turn off the engine, let it sitfor a little bit, and start it back up, it seems to fix itself. Any ideas what could be causing this so I can get this fixed before it becomes a real big problem?

What pump are you talking about fluhing, and wha would a pump have to do with acceleration?
I am not getting any loud noises, just loss of acceleration. I am not to great with cars, so could you please put everything in laymans terms.

Your original question was about power steering issue, it had nothing to do with acceleration or anything that you are talking about now.
