1986 Ford Truck V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

We bought a 1986 Ford truck; it has a 1991 Ford Mustang GT high performance engine that was just rebuilt. We bought it off of a guy form Georgia, he had a big tune up done to it before he and his dad moved out to Denver Colorado. He drove it all the way here pulling a Jeep all the way. We looked at it, we asked many people about it and we bought it. It was a great truck. Since it was form Georgia, it had lots of dirt all over it. I washed it with a self washer, I did not was the engine but I did wash the underside of the truck. I left the truck on, not running and when I was done it wouldn’t start. It sounded like an old fashion typewriter going mad. We jumped it and it worked but had a very weak idle. Then after 20 seconds of running it would die. We replaced the battery and it worked but it still didn’t ladle for long. We got a good friend of ours fixed our fuel line and it ran great, we drove it to wal-mart and back, then pulled over to adjust the shifter cable and as soon as we tried to start it back up, nothing. No mad typewriter, no engine crank, no starter turning over. No sound. Nothing happens when we try to start it. What should we do?
