I have a 1994 ford tempo GL with 20,000 miles on it (20, 00 original miles) when it starts cold it starts right up but when it heats up it sounds like the engine chokes a bit and corrects itself but sometime dies but trying to start it after it's been warmed up takes a couple mins. And occasionaly it'll just die whether it's at a stop light or going around a turn. While trying to start it after it's been warmed up I also get a fuel smell in the interior. I've checked the timing which is good, the fuel filter and plug wires are new and the EGR valve is new and I have searched all over for a vacume leaks. What do ya think because I plan to drive it from California to Maine and want to get it fixed.

Have you checked you fuel pressure with a guage. Low fuel pressure will make it hard to start when it is warmed up and it makes the injectors work funny too they will loaw up a motor just like the old days when flooding occuard in the carb systems. A clogged filter in a system for a long time can really strain a fuel pump and cause them to weaken. Can also cause poor mileage. Can also ruin a converter.(NOS) 8)
