1993 Ford Tempo Trans stopped powering

1993 Ford Tempo 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My Tempo was driving just fine I pulled up to a parts store went in and when I came back I was backing up and the trans stopped powering. I have checked fluid level it is on the line running and is not burnt. I observed the linkage on the outside of trans moving and car will come out of and go into park but does nothing in any other gear selection. Any ideas?

Hi there,

I would be thinking that it is an internal fault with the selector and the valve body, a scan will show any unresolved transmission fault codes, this may be a help, start here.
