I recently been having starter problems. I took it down and had it repair. The repair guy charged $45 bucks. Did not work and not sure what he did. I personally took it back down and changed the coil and the baring. I used my jumper cable to test it. It spins fine and the bendix goes forward great. I got it back in. It started the engine. The second try it worked. The third time it engages but does not start the car. Now sometimes it starts after a while of trying. What could be a possible reason for this? Any suggestion would be appreciated. I would hate to buy a new started and thats not the problem. Have a new battery(13 plates).

Sounds like your drive gear is slipping! It's 1 way clutch and when failing can work sometimes and not others. I was shocked to find out that parts stores are not stocking these items anymore! So you may have to dig around! You could also get a boneyard starter at a reasonable price!
