1989 Ford Tempo 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a Ford Tempo 1989 that I can't afford to send to the junk yard yet. Especially since I am a college student. My father died last year and he use to work on my car :-(( Anyway, my car started idling super high at first it would do it and then stop now it is constant. I have checked for air leaks in my hoses and can't find any. I replaced the air idle sensor and it didn't help either. I looked at the butterfly inside and it seems ok. Do you have any advice please?

To bad the idle control valve (IAC) was not it! Is that what you replaced? It's right on the backside of butterfly housing. What you nned to know about butterfy is that it is absolutely shut. You can push on it to see if it moves shut more. How does your gas pedal feel? Is it hard to push? It may be binding a little, causing the high idle? Also check the chain from the cruise control that is attached to butterfly arm. It should be loose not taught. You can also do a search of this tempo forum for high idle and look for the solutions that were successful.
