1987 Ford Tempo heat causes no starting

my car starts in the morning and at night but in the heat of the day it wont start recently replaced the fuel pump and no fuel is getting to the filter what could be wrong?

sounds like fuel pump is not pumping? now what could atmospheric heat have to do with that? since it's an 87, does it have an electric or mechanical fuel pump. is it in the the gas tank or on the engine block. is it carburetor or fuel injected.
