My car often will not start after I turn it off. It will make only one click as if the battery were totally dead. After it sits from 5-15 minutes ir starts right up very strong. The battery is new and one mechanic says the alternator is charging properly but he wasn't aware of the problem starting.

Hi, j well if the batt is good and the alt is chargeing it can only be a cpl things. Either a bad connection or a bad neutral safety switch. Did you try putting the car in neutral when it won, t start. Also wiggle the shifter. While trying to crank. But if you hear a click when you turn the key check the batt connections and make sure they are clean and tight check the wires at the starter they must be tight. Billymac
