2002 Ford SES 4dr automatic

Hello,
I was driving home one day and my car jerked strongly and the rpm went up dramatically. However, the car did not go fast. The jerking happened only when I tried to accelerate after stopping. There would be shaking and jerking simultaneously. HELP!

Thank you in advance.

I am not car expert, but I had something similar happen to me and my 2000 ford taurus recently. It was all because I washed the engine. The fix was cleaning water out from under the ignition coils. There are six of them under the hood. See picture. I just used a paper towel and cleaned out all the water. Maybe that's not it but I thought it was worth a shot.

Thank you for responding. I appreciate it. I took the car in the shop since it could not be driven. The repair guy said the transmission needed to be rebuild and I am out $1400. I really hope the problem is fixed. I don't mind paying the repair bills but I hate people who lies and doesn't fix my car and gives me the run around.
