As I am driving between 42 and 48 miles per hour there is a 2 second vibration that is very irritating in the rear end when accelerating. The harder I accelerate the harder the vibration.

Hi, I own a Taurus 98 and most vibrations at that speed comes from balancing the tires. I had the problem when one of my tires developed a bulge. If the tires are in good condition, try to rotate both rear to the front and see if that solves the problem. Sometimes the rims get bent from the pot holes. Trial and error works the best. If the spare is good you can try to use that too.
