Engine Mechanical problem
2000 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Car runs fine till it goes up hill (it seems) and starts to lose power, skipping. Very intermident, only when hot, Seems to stop after cool down. Don't know if "hill" thing is a facter. Looking into coil packs, TPS, or trash in tank.

Skipping, jerking, hesistating could be caused by one of the following

Oxygen sensor
Catalytic converter
Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this).
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:

Dirty or worn spark plugs
Bad plug wires
Weak ignition coil
Wet plug wires

Thank you for the quick response. Should I have a code that would tell me one of the sensors is bad or do I need to do some more intense diagnosis? Can a sensor be caauseing this problem such as TPS and not have a check engine light show? Sorry to pick your brain without doing more hands on trouble shoting.
