1998 Ford Taurus Tune-Up

Engine Mechanical problem
1998 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 155000 miles

My car is running rough at idle and has lost some mileage as of recent. I want to give my car a good tune-up and am not sure what that involves in its entirety.
Can you give me a list of things involved in a tune-up and anything else you think could be causing a rough idle. It's definately a miss.

If it has been a long time since you have had it serviced then below is a list of recommended tune up procedures:

INSPECT FOLLOWING:
Coolant level and strength
Engine accessory drive belt(s)
Engine cooling system hoses and clamps
Exhaust system and heat shields
Front & Rear brakes
Tire pressures and tire condition

REPLACE FOLLOWING:
Air cleaner/element
Automatic transaxle fluid
Cabin air filter (if equipped)
Engine oil
Engine oil filter
Spark plugs
Spark plug wires
Fuel filter

Also check for a vacuum leak under hood. If any vacuum hose is damaged or loose then it will cause a poor idle.

Is the check engine light on? If so then it could be a sensor causing this issue and the check engine code will pinpoint the location of the problem..
