Noises problem
1998 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 180k miles
Recently, I've found that my serpentine belt will lock up at lower speeds. The belt doesn't appear to be slipping, and it makes a squeaky whiny sound that sounds more like smooth metal against smooth metal. The car sat idle for some time. Is it possible that one of the pulley axles has become rusted enough to create extra friction? The noise and problems (power steering failure, alternator failure, fan failure) all stop as soon as I go over 1500 rpms, so would I be able to repair this with a rust remover or some type of high temp lubricant like lithium grease?
