My car is making a "hissing" sound and the engine is sputtering when it is idle. The "hissing" sounds like a tire leaking, but it is definietly not as it stops as soon as I turn off the engine. When the car is idle (in park or stopped at a light) it sputters and doesn't run smoothly. Most of the time it will stall out. What could be wrong and is it costly to fix?

Hi there,

You have an engine vacuum leak, listen around the inlet manifold with a length of hose to your ear, try and check the manifold gasket and vacuum hose connections, it may just be a hose that come off, or a faulty manifold gasket. you will hear it when you locate a leak, if a hose is disconected , there will be a connection close by that it has come off.
