Computer diag shows timing on 97 Ford Tuarus too high. Car has 104K miles. I assumed computer was compensating for bad plugs and wiring so I replaced them. Timing still shows 29 degrees at idle. I am not getting any codes at this time but I am concerned why timing is so high. Any thoughts?

Well the only thing I can think of that will make the timing too high but the engine still runs OK is fi the timing chain has stretched and allowed hard timing to advance too far. Computer is probably compensating for the mechanical timing being too high and is adjusting for this to make it run.

Could this be the case or?
