Engine Cooling problem
1997 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Automatic 108000 miles
My car was leaking fluid a couple months ago. I had a radiator leak and had to get a brand new radiator put in. Since then everythings been fine until about a week ago. While I drive the temp gauge stays between c and h. When I stop at a light, in no time at all the gauge goes to h. When I start driving again it doesn't take long for the gauge to go back down. A friend of mine thought it might be a broken fan belt. He looked at it and ruled that out. Then he checked the engine coolant tank and saw that the water was really low. I don't see a leak. He says it might be the thermostat. Would that be causing this problem, ie the gauge going up and down and the low water level? Please help. I'd like to get this fixed before I have serious problems. Thanks.
