1996 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Automatic

Ok when driving in hot conditions such as spring and summer my car will drive and then once it gets really hot it will start shutting off but when im at low speeds or no speed it does this. When im high speeding it it will work fine. What could be problem?

If it overheats at slow speeds, make sure the cooling fans are working. If they don't come on, that is the problem. Let me know what you find.

Well I checked the fans when the car was running and they didnt come on, and also checked them when it was hot or cold/ off and they didnt come on. But that was yesterday, but I will do this check again to confirm it. Also how much is it gonna run me to replace fans or can I get it at Junkyard?

That is what I thought was the problem. First, confirm they don't come on when it is overheating. If they don't, run a jumper wire from the + on the battery to the fan see if it runs. If it does, then we'll have to track down where the problem is coming from.

As far as the fan motor, you can get new ones at any parts store and they are not expensive, around 30 or 40 dollars. If you get one from a junk yard, chances are it will be junk from sitting.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.
