Hi. We just bought my son this car from a friend. Who drove it EVERYDAY from Jersey to New York with no difficulty. It always had some slight difficulty starting but after 2-3 cranks it would start and run fine. But now sometimes it starts perfectly but very frequently it will not start at all. We called a tow-truck because we gave up after 45 mins of trying to start. When the truck came, bingo it started perfectly. This happens very frequently, our mechanic can't find out what is wrong, but of course, everytime we bring it there, it starts without problems. Any suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Eileen

Next time it refuses to start Do below immediately to determine if its fuel or spark issue

Get a carb cleaner and spray into the carb or the throttle body on an EFI. Did it start and die? If not disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine -have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors- Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it
