'93 Ford Taurus sedan 3.8L eng. 82K miles; engine will crank but fail to start. Couldn't hear fuel pump engergize. Handbook suggestion was to reset inertia fuel cut-off switch. Switch wasn't tripped but after manually tripping switch and resetting, engine would start. I began listening for the fuel pump to run whenever ignition was turned on. Wouldn't come on at times and engine wouldn't start. I replaced the inertia cut-off switch but this didn't solve the problem. Now engine will die while moving. When the ignition switch is turned off and on, can't hear the fuel pump energize. After a few minutes, fuel pump will work fine. This is happening more often than at first. Fuel pump was replaced about 5 years ago as a precautionary measure when it was becoming noisy. Anyone know of any other components that could be faulty before having to drop the fuel tank to replace the fuel pump?

Could be the fuel pump relay or wiring. Relays that go bad may work only intermittently.

Hope that helps

Thank you for your comment. While previously researching the problem, I checked with the local Ford Dealer Parts Department and they told me no other components are in that circuit; just the pump, enertia switch, ignition switch.

Your welcome--Not sure why they told you that. Not familiar with this vehicle, but their is a relay somewhere.
Your manual should say something about it along with a schematic.
They had one at Schuck's for about $3 bucks.

Hope that helps
