1993 Ford Taurus why air come out of my gas tank

1993 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Hi I have 93 ford taurus SHO automatic 3.2 engine my question is why everytime that fuel tank get 1 quarter or less when I take off the gas cap air come out of the gas tank.
