1997 Ford Station Wagon Repair Question

Ford Station Wagon Engine Problem
Transmission problem
1997 Ford Station Wagon 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic
My 1997 Ford Taurus wagon "check engine" light has come on. Scan showed the problem to be in the tranny, however there are no apparent problems when I drive this car. It shifts smoothly, no stutters, no problems apparent. They are suggesting a rebuild of the tranny, which is obviously expensive. Should I just get rid of the car?
Any chance that this is just a glitch with the scan?

If the trans is working properly, do not have it rebuilt. What code are they getting? Ask them for a number.
