Hi, my sister has a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT. The other day she ran out of gas. She put gas in it, started it and it sounded really bad. It was knocking and pinging like crazy. My husband and I went over to look at it today and it wouldnt start at all. Coiuld it be a fuel filter? Where is the fuel filter on that truck? Could it be the fuel injectors? Are they cleanable or would we need to replace them? I appreciate any help. Thanks, Lizzy.

I can almost guarentee you that your fuel pump is shot from running out of gas which caused it to overheat. the pump is water cooled. Follow the fuel rail from the engine to the gas lines under hte vehicle which will lead you right to the fuel filter. there is also one in the fuel tank. to test hte pump you can either do a pressure and volume test under the hood or drop the tank and have it tested
