Just bought the truck a week ago, was checking oil and noticed the MAF sensor was unpluged. Mind you the truck seemed to run OK. I went from a f150 v8 to the 4 cyl. For fuel economy. Anyway I pugged it back in and tried to start the struck, it started but ran poorly. I unplugged it and it ran like it did before. So I thought I would clean the sensor. I puchaced a can of sensor cleaner at the parts store and followed the directions on the can. This did nothing, If I pug it in it runs poorly or not at all. Isd the sensor bad or do I have a wiring problem to the sensor? I can use a multimeter but what should I check for?

The Check engine light should have been on. Short of a visual check, you need a hand held diagnostic computer to check the MAF. IT probably is bad and isn't cheap either.

The other point is if the wires were shorted, it would run bad even unplugged. PCM is using a set midpoint value when unplugged. Online between 125.00 and 85.00.
