My truck here recently has been having a problem with my oil pressure gauge. I'll be sitting at idle and the gauge will go crazy, but once I engage the clutch and take off it returns to normal. I also have a problem with a burnt oil smell, and I have checked the dipstick and it is barely below half full, I am going to get some oil to fix the problem until I can get it looked at, but I am beginning to wonder if it is a gasket problem. Any help would be appreciated.

could be failing oil pressure sending unit, need to check pressure with a mechanical gauge to ensure vehicle's gauge is reading accurate. if its accurate than oil pump could be failing, if its not accurate replace sending unit.
