WHEN I GO TO PUT THE TRANS IN GEAR IT MAKES A GRINDING NOISE JUST BEFORE IT GOES IN GEAR. AND IT MAKES THE SAME GRINDING NOISE AS IM RUNNING UP THROUGH THE GEARS WHEN I TAKE OFF FROM A STOP. IT ALWAYS DOES IT JUST BEFORE IT GOES INTO THAT GEAR. ALSO IF I AM SITTING STILL IN NEUTRAL I PUSH THE CLUTCH IN AND IF I LET IT OUT SLOWLY WHEN IT REACHES THE HALF WAY POINT IT WILL MAKE THE SAME NOISE. ANY IDEAS

Does it happen when you let the clutch out or when you put the shifter into gear

thats could be something in your clutch or pressure plate or flywheel thats grinding the clutch might not be any good

depends on how hard you drive it but a clutch will last between 100,000 miles to 200,000 miles

I dont run it hard. It does it just before it goes in gear and will do it pretty much on and off through all 5 gears. Sometimes it wont do it but most of the time it does. Also it makes the same noise while in neutral and you put the clutch to the floor and let it out slow and sometimes when it gets half way out it makes the same noise.

Well wat I think it could be is your slave cylinder not releasing completely to check this have some one get into the truck while your under there is a palm size dust cover remove it get your helper to push the clutch in and make sure that it is grabing and releasing completely the other is the bushing on the shifter they should be complate round rubber like rings that the bal of the shifter sits on and pivots on there about 10 bucks and easy to replace but hard to find try the ford dealer to replace these the shifter has to be removed make sure it is in nuetral remove the four screws than pull straight up while in there take a good look at all your gears look at the teeth this is a good time to check the fluid level by removing the fill plug onthe driver side of tranny then pour manual tranny fluid in where the shifter was pour untill runs out fill plug
