We just replaced the motor on 96 Ford Ranger but when we got it the temperature gauge was 3/4 high then it would almost overheart but never did. Then we noticed the heater wasn't blowing enough hot air. We changed thermostat and the temperature gauge was controlled but the heater was not. The mechanic that did the motor changed the thermostat to a hotter one so we got some heat but not to its normal heat and now the temperature gauge is back to high. He had previously replaced the radiator but it's a used one so I don't know if that's the problem. He tells me everything is fine but I don't think it is.

The engine should rin between 195°F and 210°F. If the t-stat is new and the engine is still nearly overheating, then I would say the radiator is the problem. If the engine is getting that hot, then the heater should be hot too unless there isn't enough circulation. I would recommend having the radiator rodded out and the heater core and engine block flushed. Also, I would recommend replacing the t-stat with the proper t-stat temp.

Let me know what you find or if this helps. NOTE: If you still don't have heat and both heater core hoses are getting hot, I would recommend checking the blend door on the heater core. It may be stuck.
