1996 Ford Ranger spark plug gap

Ford sold me pre gapped plugs. But they are gapped much more than the gap of .42 to.46 gap recommended by others. My old plugs are carbon fouled, all equal. They are plat. and dont know how old they are, but look good. What gap do you suggest.

Under the hood you will find the V.E.C.I. label, this has that spec printed on it as well as the engine size...Go with the spec on that label!
