Engine Mechanical problem

My son's truck will not crank in the mornings, sometimes. This problem has been occuring intermittantly through the summer, and now that it's getting cooler, more often. Also, a few days ago, it wouldn't start during a light rain in the afternoon. The engine turns over, but does not start. A mechanic has looked it over, and changed the battery posts, but it's still acting up. What could be causing this?
