THE truck started spitting and sputtering after it warmed up about a 1/2 hr then finally died completely. It will not start. It does not have a distributor but 2 coil packs with 8 plugs. It has no spark at either coil. When it would die it would restart after it cooled down a bit but then would stall as soon as it heated up again.

Hello

If you are not getting any spark at all at the coil, I would say it may be the ignition module. Though I have no guarantee, the coils get their spark from the ignition module.

I don’t have a test for this. If possible, check out the scan tool from Auto Zone and pull the codes to the car. Most important: Once your codes are checked, and you don’t get it fixed and need to get back with us, please make sure you tell us exactly what the code was, number and all. Example, if the code was E0568 O2 Sensor bad. Then make sure you give us all of that.

Look the coil packs over really good for heat damage or anything abnormal.

I would think it is the ignition module and then the crankshaft dual hall effect sensor.

Please let me know how this does.

Thanks for the quick response. My experience in the past was that the module was the culprit but with the distributorless ignition I put the skids on and had to ask someone more experienced than myself. I will get the scan tool and check the codes first. I will let you know.
