1989 Ford Ranger no power (or too much) to fuel pump

I just replaced the fuel pump (with sending unit) and im not getting power to pump, but yet im getting power to fuel gague, when I put fuel pump on new battery it works fine, where would the most common wire problem be, to rule the inertia out of equation where is it located at, thank you for any help that can be givin

Check the ground circuit. The inertia switch is located under right side of dash on firewall. See below
