I just got this truck 3 weeks ago. The previous owner put in a new distributor. I have replaced the carb, fuel pump, fuel filter, coil, plugs and wires. The truck runs fine and has plenty of power. However, it has died 3 times in the past 2 weeks. The engine turns over but will not start. If I leave it for 30 minutes or so, it starts again. The coil is not hot. Could the problem be the fuse nest to the solenoid and the battery? Or, do you have any suggestions? This is a very nice truck and I want to keep it for quite a long time.

This is taking me way back. Does the truck have points and condenser or does it have an computer box? If it has points and condenser, I would start there. I remember condensers that would overheat and cause this type of problem. Replace the points at the same time. If I recall, with a V8, you want them around 45 degrees dwell.

If it has the computer module box, replace it. They did the same thing.

NOTE: Everything I just mentioned deals with a loss of spark to the plugs when the truck doesn't start. If you have spark and it won't start, let me know. We have some carb work to do.

Look forward to hearing from you, and thanks for using 2carpros.com.
